with a smooth/polished/glossy flow of fruit and phenolics that seem to rush across the palate as one

This is pretty oaky at present though the necessary density appears to be present such that the wood treatment will eventually be successfully integrated

This too is overtly floral with its broad-ranging nose of spicy red and dark berry aromas that slide gracefully into the super-sleek

A very pretty nose offers up notes of essence of pear

Supple but a bit sullen in the mouth, with unforthcoming flavors of black cherry and shoe polish. Seems a bit less thoroughly ripe than the '97 Hermitage Pied de la Cote. Rather awkward today. A sample of the same wine from a very early bottling (June of '98!) showed a comparatively explosive nose of truffle, smoke and black olive; a more elegant palate
