Almost certainly a tetraploid, Aucuba 'Shugetsu' shares many traits with tet daylilies abnormally thick stems and foliage. The tree trunk like stalk supports a 6' tall, vase shape plant that's narrow at the base and widens slightly toward the tip. The 9" long evergreen leaves are very dark green with a wide golden central pattern
