Marques Riscal, Rioja Gran Reserva Vintage:2001 Roasted black raspberry and cassisNot yet released. 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, 5% Cabernet, all from vines aged 30+ years, aged in US oak for 28 months (no new oak). Then three years in bottle before release. (The new barrels are used on wine they are not going to bottle and sell under their own name.) Deep crimson less bricky than the riserva. Black fruit. Subtle and spicy. Cool flavour. Firm and savoury. Dense. Still so young. Perfume to come. Very very fine but pretty firm.
