It was the band's first full length release on their own Nothing label, a subsidiary of Interscope. The album was recorded in the home that actor Sharon Tate was infamously murdered by the Manson family in 1969, a purposefully dark backdrop to a dark record. Despite it's aggro and macabre nature, the album was a mainstream hit, going to #2 on the Billboard
